Feeling Great
How your sense of touch can make you feel better

Humans have five main senses. Touch is perhaps the most important one. After all, the skin is the largest organ and it contains an incredible number of nerve endings with numerous functions. These include detecting changes in pressure, pain and temperatures as well as acting like a glove in protecting our body. Some parts of our bodies have more nerve endings than others. The parts with the most nerve endings, the most sensitive areas, are the fingertips, the tongue and lips. That explains why it is so painful when you bite your tongue, because the sides of the tongue have so many nerve endings that are sensitive to pain. It also explains why it’s so pleasurable to kiss on the lips. Even if you lose your sight, with your sense of touch intact, you can still read Braille with your fingertips.
