Disarming Aids With Awareness

Ignorance, discrimination and lack of support for AIDS and its victims are still rampant in Singapore. Despite all, the figure is still rising. Are we doing enough? After the death of Paddy Chew, the first Singaporean to come out as a person with AIDS, in 1999, many would think that such publicity would raise the public’s awareness of the deadly disease and be well informed of its prevention. But sad to say, instead of decreasing, there has been a sharp rise in the number of people infected with HIV or AIDS. In Singapore this year, some 2508 people have been officially diagnosed with AIDS.
