FAMILY HEALTH ARTICLES The Mum-to-bes Diet Pregnancy is an especially exciting and trying time for mums-to-be. Expectant mothers need to eat nutritious foods to help the unborn baby grow well. However, many women are concerned with weight gain. What they should realise that too little weight gain indicates an under-consumption of calories and may hamper the babys growth and development. Too much weight gain is not recommended either as maternal obesity may increase the risk of other diseases such as gestational diabetes or defects in the neural tube (the part of the foetus that develops into the brain and spinal cord), regardless of folate intake. |
