Crying babies

To some, the cry of a baby represents the joyous sound of an infant. For me, having had an infant son (who is now at a school-going age and, thankfully, rarely cries) who cried endlessly from the moment he was born, the cries bring back bad memories of sleepless nights and a sense of helplessness. It certainly did not help being bombarded with old wives’ tales and admonitions from my mother-in-law. According to those, my son’s crying bouts were due to my taking of baths during the confinement period, an inappropriate amount of spice in my diet whilst I was breastfeeding, the refrigeration of my breast milk, and so on.
