Vivacious Vivian

Multitasker Vivian Hsu is what every woman aspires to be. After all, the gorgeous 39-year-old Taiwanese singer, actress and model is achieving the very much sought after work-life balance.
As the previous judge and mentor of Chinese Idol Season 2, Vivian has proven herself competent on the music scene and as articulate verbally as she is musically. Some of her memorable works include Smiling Eyes

Vivian has recently been invited to be the producer of Ray Hou Lei’s (Top 4 of Chinese Idol Season 1) new music album and will be writing lyrics, selecting songs and working on music arrangements for the album. She will also be involved in singing backup, as well as post production.

Despite the heavy workload and busy schedule, Vivian finally tied the knot with her Singapore-based businessman boyfriend in November last year. She also squeezed in some time to share with us about how she is adapting to her new relationship status, and spills the beans on looking good twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.

LiveWell: First things first. Congratulations on your wedding, Vivian! How has married life been so far? Has it changed you in any way?
Vivian Hsu: Thank you very much for your well wishes. I have adapted to married life well! There are many things about married life that require learning so I am picking those up along the way. Life is busy for me right now but it is full of satisfaction!

Other than my passion for work, I am still very involved with my family and enjoy spending time with them. As I am currently residing in Singapore, I have fewer opportunities to meet my sisters and friends who are based in Taiwan. However, they will visit me here when they miss me too much. I will then act as their guide and bring them around the country.

That’s great to know! So now that you are one of us, surely you have tried our local delicacies! What is your all-time local favourite dish? Do you prefer Taiwanese street food or Singapore’s hawker fare?
Singapore has many delicious delicacies from around the world. Here, I am able to eat delectable Western food, Japanese grilled meat, Peking duck, Hong Kong cuisine etc. My favourite dish in Singapore is Bak Kut Teh!

Of course, because I grew up eating Taiwanese street food, I will always miss its taste. I especially miss my parents’ cooking!

Do you have any tips for our readers when it comes to eating healthy?
Drink a big glass of water upon waking! I try not to eat carbohydrates at night. I do have guilty pleasures though. I give in to them by snacking only in the day.

As a model and actress, it is imperative to look good all the time. What were some sacrifices you have had to make to keep your figure trim and look presentable 24/7?
Exercising is good for the body and soul; it should be done on a regular basis. I vary my exercises with swimming, running or walking. I also make it a point to do stretching exercises before bed.
If I were to be really serious about slimming down, I will first reduce my appetite by controlling my diet strictly. Which means for breakfast and lunch, I will stop eating once I’m 70% full. Then for dinner, I will only consume enough to be half-full.

And you have such enviable skin! Can you share with us your beauty and skincare regime?
I focus especially on hydrating my skin as I cannot stand having any dry and scaly feeling whatsoever. Therefore, other than applying facial mask every day, I will also use lip masks and feet masks every once in a while. If I were to sleep in an air-conditioned room, I will be geared up for “battle”, covering myself from head to toe! Gloves, face mask, socks, humidifier – these are the items I use to combat dryness!

Let’s say if you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be and why?
Health is most important to me! I will not think about my other shortcomings that cannot be changed but to accept them. Happiness is when one is contented with life!

Last but not the least, what are your New Year’s resolutions?
I hope to improve on my English! This will help to make my life in Singapore much easier. I will continue to compose music this year and my target is to release a new album by the end of 2015.
